Coast Range Forest Watch

Coast Range Forest Watch is a grassroots organization of community members concerned about the health of forests and watersheds in Oregon’s coast range. We hope to foster an honest discussion about the factors which influence this unique ecosystem and the people who depend on it. Through educational events and community science, our mission is to provide scientifically sound information to managing agencies and residents.

  1. Emma Sloan says:

My name is Emma Sloan and I am an environmental science undergraduate at the University of Oregon. I was researching the Coast Range Forest Watch for my Environmental Policy class, and the description I wrote of your group will be published in a United Nations glossary of United States environmental organizations.

Through the Environmental Leadership Program I became involved with issues relating to pesticide drift along the Oregon coastal range, particularly in Curry and North Douglas counties. As I am sure you know, industrial logging companies use aerial spray over clear cuts, and the herbicides often are sprayed, or drift over homes and schools in neighboring towns.

Me and my classmates shot and edited this video that was shown at the Public Interest Environmental Law Conference, and I would love it if you could take a moment to watch.

This issue is addressed in Senate Bill 613, which has not yet gotten a hearing. As this issue affects your area, you have the ability to raise awareness. I would love it if you could share our video at a meeting, or on your Facebook page, or even asking your representative on their stance on Senate Bill 613. Please let me know if I can provide you with additional materials that will help make the issue more clear. Below I have included a link below to articles in the Oregonian about the issue.

Thank you for all your work on the Marbled Murrelet project. Birds are so important in the trophic scale!

    Best, Emma Sloan
